Its Marathon Time!

As you can imagine here at Promotion Props and Costumes we love seeing people in wacky dress up and one of the best places to catch them all frolicking about is at one of the many marathon events held annually all across the UK.

If you are unaware of the ‘Marathon Costume’ then I’m not really sure what to suggest you’ve been getting up to but whatever it was it has definitely lead to you missing out on some very creative and outright bizarre get ups.

For many years now it has been becoming more and more popular to wear a costume when running a marathon, not so much for the full on professional runner but more for the occasional amateur and especially for those running on behalf of a chosen charity.

The general idea is to get more people to notice you and basically to make it more fun for yourself and everyone else involved. This has resulted in an ever growing crowd following at the events and more and more people partaking in the actual marathon and wearing costumes just like the ones below.

Need to see more? The mirror.co.uk has some nominees for the London Marathon 2015: Best fancy dress costumes.

So as you can see fancy dress and mascot costumes are a very big deal when it comes to marathon culture, in fact they are expected and many would be extremely disappointed to turn up to a marathon with everyone in the traditional running gear.

Make a statement, get fit while having fun or just look silly just because...

Of course you don’t have to be in a marathon to wear a mascot costume, whatever your occasion or need Promotional Props and Costumes are always happy to guide you through the many different ways of creating a mascot costume or any product suited to your needs and budget, for more information just give us a call or send us an email

We are happy to work from an existing design or we can create a new character just for you; the choice is yours.

Promotional Props and The Vic Reeves Bob Mortimer tour 2016

For those of you who don’t know who Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer are, they are a British comedy double act, who have written and starred in several comedy programmes on our TV screens since 1990.

The comedy duo was set to do a 25th anniversary tour in the UK in 2015 but was cancelled because Bob Mortimer undergo emergency triple-bypass heart surgery, after thinking that he had a chest infection but in this case, something more serious.

However it’s not all doom and gloom because the comedy double are back in 2016 after the doctors gave Bob the “go ahead” to carry on with the tour.

You may ask what this has got to do with Promotional Props? Well we made The Greg Mitchell puppet!

The Greg Mitchell puppet first appeared on Vic Reeves' Big Night Out in the early 90s, where Greg was always wasting money.

How to choose a mascot for your business

Choosing a mascot is a massive decision and is probably one of the most important ones you will make when it come to your company branding.

The mascot that you choose will become the face of your company – it will be the image that people think of where they think of your company or hear your company name. The right mascot costume will make your company stand out and be memorable.

So, here are our tips for what to consider when choosing a mascot for your company.

Practicalities

Luckily for you, we know what we’re doing at Promotional Props, especially when it comes to practicalities! Your suit mascot costume needs to be:

  • Well-made and strong It’s a big expense for something that will fall apart after 6 months!
  •  It needs to be wearable – That means breathable and lightweight! There’s no use having an amazing life-like mascot design if no one can bear to wear in for more that 2 minutes at a time!
  • It needs to be washable – If you have never been the person inside a mascot costume, you probably don’t fully appreciate this one. They can get hot, dirty and smelly quite quickly, so it’s essential to have a costume that can be cleaned easily – because it will need to be cleaned!
  • It needs to be manoeuvrable – A mascot needs to be fun and interactive, which is can’t be if it can’t move around and interact with people.
Memorable

You’ve probably noticed that a lot of mascot costumes are animals. That’s because people quickly identify what they are! (And people generally love animals.) Of course you don’t have to limit yourself to animals. Anything that people will be able to recognise and that suits your company image could potentially make a good choice. As a starting point, you might want to consider something that is locally recognisable. For example, here in Nottingham, you may go for something Sherwood Forest related i.e.: Robin Hood, bears, squirrels, owls, deers, etc!

Try to stay away from personal things, or ‘inside jokes’ that the average person, or potential customers might not understand.  Mascots convey personality and introduce to your company’s image. The ideal one will be prominent in people’s minds and make them remember your brand.

We’re very experienced in designing and making mascot for a wide variety and businesses and sectors here at Promotional Props and Costumes - get in touch today to create yours!
